Chebucto Hiking Club's (CHC) mandate is to introduce people to great hiking trails and natural footpaths in and around the Halifax Regional Municipality.

CHC leaders are volunteers and not professional guides.  All outings are at your own risk.  Come prepared for your safety as well as others. Chebucto Hiking Club will not be held liable for any injuries, expenses, or inconveniences that participants may experience during any hike. To view our conditions of participation, click here.

Take part in one of our hiking adventures with our 2017 schedule.  Guaranteed full of exciting outdoor experiences with both new and old favorites.

If you can't make it on Friday or Saturday, our regular Tuesday afternoon 10 km walk, rated 3B, is very popular with retirees or shift workers. It's 4:30 - 6:30 pm every Tuesday, leaving from Sobeys/NSLC parking lot, 961 Bedford Hwy.

You can also join CHC at 10 am every Thursday morning in the parking lot of Graham's Grove Park on Prince Albert Road (across from the Braemar Superstore) for a 10km walk around Dartmouth or on the trails in Shubie Park.

Join CHC on Facebook and keep up-to-date on the latest happenings and posts from members and interested hiking partners.  Get weekly updates and reminders on upcoming trips and events.  Post your comments and report on favorite hiking spots.  Our membership continues to grow!

All of our events are 10km in length, or longer.  All guided walks have a designated walk leader and "ender" or sweep who are familiar with the trail, terrain, and the physical demands. The pace, which is dependent on the terrain, is generally 4-5 km/hour, with a typical 10 km walk taking a little over 2 hours.  You can read more about our walk ratings by clicking here.

You do not need to pre-register or call in advance to say if you're coming or to see if the event is "on".  Hikes are rarely cancelled; however, if you have any doubt please contact the hike leader listed on the schedule to confirm.  All walks depart promptly on time, so please arrive 15 minutes early.  Pets must remain leashed at all times.  Please feel free to call the walk leader with any questions about the trail.

Besides guided walks, the CHC has some walks that are self-guided (walk map and directions provided) which you can walk any day of the year on your own or with a friend, at your own pace - a great way to get in shape or build up your trail stamina.  These beautiful "city walks" are found in Bedford, up each side of the Northwest Arm, Halifax-to-Dartmouth return (via bridge and ferry), Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. Check out the brochure on self-guided walks here.

Remember -- have fun & stay healthy!
