The Chebucto Hiking Club's (CHC) mandate is to introduce people to great hiking trails
and natural footpaths in and around the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Be sure to see our new
2008 schedule -
packed with scenic hikes and trips that you won't want to miss out on.
All of our events are 10km in length, or longer. All guided walks have
a designated walk leader and "ender" or sweep who are familiar with the
trail, terrain, and the physical demands. The pace, which is dependent on the
terrain, is generally 4-5 km/hour, with a typical 10 km walk taking a little
over 2 hours. You can read more about our walk ratings by
clicking here.
You do not need to pre-register or call in advance to
say if you're coming or to see if the event is "on" - all walks are held
regardless of the weather, and all walks depart promptly on time, so please
arrive 15 minutes early. Pets must remain leashed at all times. Please feel free to call the walk leader with any
questions about the trail.
Besides guided walks, the CHC has "permanent
trails"
(PTs) that are self-guided (walk map and directions provided) which you can
walk any day of the year on your own or with a friend, at your own pace - a
great way to get in shape or build up your trail stamina. These
beautiful "city walks" are found in Bedford, up each side of the Northwest
Arm, Halifax-to-Dartmouth return (via bridge and ferry), Mahone Bay and
Lunenburg.
